Elaine Belanger, 66, of Zion, IL and Gulf Breeze, FL, died on Sunday June 23, 2013 in Chicago.
She was born December 8, 1946 in Tuscaloosa, AL and lived in Winthrop Harbor and Zion most of her life. She graduated Zion-Benton Township High School class of 1965 and went on to receive her Masters Degree in education from Southern Illinois University. On January 8, 1966 she married Michael Belanger at Great Lakes Chapel. Together they belonged to Our Lady of Humility Church of Beach Park where Elaine served as a Master Catechist. She worked as Director of Youth Ministry at Our Lady of Humility Church and was an Adjunct Professor at S.I.U. Great Lakes.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Michael; children Michelle Mitchell of Davie, FL, Mary-Lee (Anthony) Gonzales of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Megan (Chris) Nordin of Seattle, WA, and Ashton (Darrell) Young of Ridgeway, SC; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings James Larry (Sally) Rawlins of Gulf Breeze, FL, Donna Kay (Milton) Pullen of Menominee, MI, and Kerry Wayne Rawlins of Zion, IL.
She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter Sofia Anne Holman; an infant brother Terry Rawlins; and her parents James and Wanda Rawlins.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL where a Wake Service with the Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 29th, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL.
