Ernest P. Massimo, 97, of Waukegan, IL since 1955, formerly of Baltimore, MD, died on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Terrace Nursing Home, Waukegan, IL. He was born March 19, 1916, in Pennsylvania, and worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania and retired as a construction engineer for the Curran Company in Lake County, IL. Ernest belonged to the Union Local #150. He served in World War II with the 3rd Army and was a veteran of D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Ernest was past post commander of both the Waukegan VFW and the Waukegan American Legion. He loved to bowl and was considered an excellent cook, priding himself on teaching anyone who wanted to learn... Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Helena Massimo; children, Leberta Jean Garino of MO, Ernest L. (Katherine) Massimo of Antioch, IL, Edward (Brenda) Massimo of West End, NC, Mark (Diana) Massimo of Waukegan, IL, Anthony (Mary) Massimo of Baltimore, MD, Brian (Lori) Massimo of Zion, IL, Gary (Susan) Massimo of Bluffton, SC, and Margaret Kubic; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great grandchild; brothers Donald Massimo and Carlo Massimo; sister Clara Massimo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Neva; son, Joseph Massimo; brothers Albert Primavera, Dominic Massimo, Nello Massimo; and sister Mae (Primavera) Burneff. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014, from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Rd., Zion IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Kwadwo Ntim, officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park, IL. Memorial donations are suggested to the Waukegan VFW or the Wounded Warrior Project.
