Esther Ruth Homeck

1923 — June 28, 2017

Esther Ruth Homeck (nee Myrum), 93, of Lake Bluff, formally of Zion, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 28, 2017.

Esther was born August 28, 1923, in Zion, Ill. Her parents were immigrants from Scandinavia and initially, settled in Minneapolis. In 1919, they followed the evangelist Alexander Dowie to Zion where they established their permanent home.

Esther attended the elementary schools in Zion, then graduated from High School in Waukegan. Ester worked at Woolworths in Waukegan and later as a bookkeeper for Fansteel Manufacturing, where she retired at age 55.

She met Harry Homeck in 1972 and enjoyed 31 years of marriage. Together they traveled extensively, particularly enjoying trips to Norway and Sweden. Esther  and Harry participated in a wide variety of hobbies, including square dancing and enjoyed discussing politics.

Later in life, Esther continued to be involved at the First Christian Church of Gurnee and sang in the Swedish Glee Club. She continued her travels with her good friend Charlene, visiting the Mediterranean and the Holy Lands. She also enjoyed time with her family playing games, including marathon Rummikub matches well into the night!

She lived her life surrounded by an abundance of dear friends and family. Even though she was never blessed with children of her own, she was dearly loved by her nieces and nephews: Rodney and Marsha Myrum of Montana; Don Myrum of North Carolina; David Myrum, of Zion; Don Werner of Florida; Sue and George Turnpaugh of Florida; Nancy Kinsman of Volo; Darwin Bell of Kenosha; as well as, 28 Great Nieces and Nephews, and 32 Great, Great Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Harry Homeck along with her parents, Peter and Ana Myrum, her siblings, Henry Myrum, Art Myrum, Elroy Myrum, Edna Myrum, and Martha Myrum, her niece, Lila Bell (nee Myrum) and nephew, Alan Myrum.

Services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Beach Bible Church located at 3520 21st St., Zion, Ill. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt.  Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, Ill.

In honor of Aunt Esther's charitable heart and generous giving; gifts may be given in her name to the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago or the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Fund.
