Everett “John” Johnson,88, of Zion, IL, died on Thursday, January 8, 2014 ,at Rolling Hills Manor, Zion, IL.
He was born June 7, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts. On April 20, 1947, he married Agnes Hader. He served loyally in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1968 when he retired as a Master Chief Hospital Corpsman at the Naval Hospital, Great Lakes having served as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor. (Currently known as the Master Chief) Following his retirement from the Navy he joined Abbott Laboratories, and completed 20 years of service before finally retiring from the work force in 1988. He was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association plus he spent many hours volunteering on an assortment of projects. The golf course was his second home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Agnes H. Johnson of Zion, IL; two daughters, Sherlyn Schultz Radke Hauri of Gages Lake, IL, and Jacquelyn Videlka of Round Lake, IL; brother, Donald (Ruth) Fischer of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Roger (Chrystal) Schultz, Andrew Videlka, Joelle Radke, Lori (Edward) Eidson, and Jay Videlka; four great-grandchildren, Bradley and Taylor Eidson, and Laney and Austin Videlka, and two step great-grandchildren, Drake and Troy.
He was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Norman Radke and Kenneth Hauri.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015, at 10: 30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL.
