Fern M. Strane

Fern M. Strane, 93, of Zion, IL died on Friday, August 26, 2016 at her home. She was born August 23, 1923 in Stone County, MO. She married the late Jackson C. Strane in 1945 in San Diego, CA. Jackson was serving in the Navy at the time which brought them to Great Lakes, IL. Fern later worked at the Navy Exchange in North Chicago. She was also a former member of Zion-Benton Women of the Moose. She enjoyed cooking and bowling but most all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children Jackson C. Strane Jr. of Zion, IL, James J. Strane of Palatine, IL, and Barbara (Ron) Freeman of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren Jolene Matson, James Strane Jr., Brian D. (Shannon Rigden) Strane, Amy N. (Daniel) Charles, Ronald J. Freeman III, and Daniel S. (Joann) Freeman; four great-grandchildren Julia Strane, Aiden Rigden, Brian Strane Jr., and Aubrey Charles; sisters Gynith (and the late Bob) Farrell of Clear Lake, CA, Gladys (and the late Elmer) Hagler of Billings, MO, Betty (and the late Bill) Hagler of Crane, MO, Georgia (Ted) Hunt of Springfield, MO, and Mary (Larry) Garringer of Mt. Vernon, MO; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jackson C. Strane in 1994, two sisters Golda (and the late Junior) Chambers and Louise (and the late Carl) Wilson; and her parents Orba and Alta King. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 31, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Interment services will be on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, IL.
