Gail Meyers, passed on December 29, 2022 at the age of 86. Beloved mother of Tamara Hoeksema, and Leah Weaver. Cherished grandma of Derek (Melanie Ullrich) Hoeksema, Alyssa Gayle (Glen) Soucy, Brad (Jenny Krulewich) Weaver, Lindsay Weaver, and Craig (Amanda Bedker) Hoeksema. Loving great-grandmother to Lily Nicolet.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents Wilfred and Ruth Brownlow; and her siblings Josephine (Robert) Peterson and Wil (Barb) Brownlow. Gail deeply loved her large extended family and circle of friends.
Gail had deep roots in the Zion community. Her grandparents emigrated from England in 1902 to work at the Zion Lace Factory. She joined her family at Zion’s Christian Catholic Church (CCC) and spent her childhood singing in choirs and attending church functions. Gail was part of the Zion Benton class of 1954 and graduated from Bradley University in 1958.
Gail worked as a speech pathologist in the Zion and Chicago public schools for over 20 years. After retiring, she pursued many hobbies including, playing the harp, chalk drawing, travel, and water aerobics. Gail worked as a lay minister at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan where she started a labyrinth ministry. Gail is a member of the Waukegan Chapter of PEO. Gail spent many summers in Door County, Wisconsin enjoying nature and time spent with her lifelong friend Roselyn (Wiley) Krapf.
Gail loved to sing and entertain family and friends – her voice and loving presence will be missed by all that knew her.
Visitation will begin Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois. Funeral Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Dinner will be hosted by the family immediately following the service. Interment will be held privately at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Flowers and memorials can be sent to the funeral home or donations made in her memory to COOL Food Pantry in Waukegan.
