Gary Michael Lloyd, 74, of Zion, IL, passed away on August 3, 2024. Gary was born on July 8, 1950, in Kenosha, WI, to James and Evelyn (Christensen) Lloyd. He attended Zion-Benton Township High School, where he met the love of his life, Gail Wethington. After high school, he
attended Washburn Trade School and began his career as a union carpenter in the early 1970s before starting his own construction business as a general contractor.
A dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Gary was known for his deep faith and unwavering commitment to his family and community. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1976, a decision that shaped his life and interactions with others. He lived a life that radiated the love of Christ. Gary’s faith was evident to all who knew him, and his positive influence extended far and wide, touching the lives of many.
Gary proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam Era. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 865 for over 30 years, where he served as a chaplain, offering spiritual support to fellow veterans. At Christ Community Church, he served
faithfully as a Zion Guard and played various roles in the Zion Passion Play. He also portrayed John Alexander Dowie, the founder of Zion, for the Zion Historical Society at various public events.
Gary’s love for golf was well-known, and he played as often as possible. He also loved building projects for his children and grandchildren, creating a playhouse, an extravagant playset enjoyed by neighborhood kids, a treehouse, riding toys, and more. He cherished seeing his kids and
grandkids have fun and would do anything for them. Gary’s strong work ethic, dedication to helping others, and hobbies left a lasting impact on everyone he met, teaching others to love unconditionally and live a life of service.
