Gary B. Yahr, 71, of Crawfordsville, IN, formerly of Waukegan, IL passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, IN.
Gary was born July 26, 1939, in West Bend, WI, and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree from Jones College in Jacksonville, FL. He married Janice Henderson on February 24, 1968, in Waukegan. Gary was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waukegan. He retired from the United States Navy (where he served in Viet Nam) after 20 years of service and then again worked for 20 years as a nursing home administrator at three different facilities. Gary was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed reading and camping.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Janice Yahr; children, Kimberly (Phil) Cordova of New Market, IN, and Karl (Andrea) Yahr of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Phillip, Maggie, and Meredith Cordova, and Theresa, Melissa, and Samantha Yahr; brothers, Richard (Eileen) Yahr of Pound, WI, Cliff (Betty) Yahr of West Bend, WI, and Phil (Mary) Yahr of Berlin, WI; sister-in-law, Delores Yahr of Milwaukee, WI; brother-in-law, Gerald (Jan) Blanchette of Sebring, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Mildred Yahr; brother, Leroy Yahr; and sister, Marilyn Blanchette.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 6840 N. 107th St., Milwaukee, WI. Interment with military honors will follow at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend, WI. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
