George "Skip" Don, 64, of Beach Park, IL, died peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 18, 1949, in Waukegan, IL, and married Penny Stang on August 1, 1987, in Mt. Carroll, IL. Skip served in the Viet Nam War with the United States Army. He retired from Local #301, having worked as a driver for various road construction companies and as a driver for Losch Beverages and Fred Pucin Distributors. Skip also was a member of the Zion Moose Club. He was a car racing enthusiast, an avid motorcycle rider, and a fun loving, big hearted guy.
Skip is survived by his wife and friend of 33years, Penny; two daughters, Cindi Don of Gurnee, IL, Patti (Nicole Hightower) Don of Kenosha, WI; best friend and buddy, "Hooch"; sisters, Fran (Eugene) Fleming of Hayward, WI, and Sharon (Fred) Lambert of Bristol, WI; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Les and Mary Stang of Grayslake, IL; sisters-in-law, Maggie (Jim) Lesza, Leslie (Mark) Schwenk, and Patty (Amos) Black; brothers-in-law, Mike (Sally) Stang, and Charles and Tim Stang; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Hazel Don.
A Service with Military Honors be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Interment is private for the family.
