George R. Lonergan, 83, of Beach Park, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015 at home.
George was born June 13, 1932 in Waukegan, IL. George entered the Army in October, 1952 and took his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He also attended engineer refrigeration school at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He served with the 545th Engineer Refrigeration Maintenance Detachment in Korea. Prior to entering the service he was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School and he was employed by National Envelope Co and retired in 1988 from Westvaco envelope in North Chicago, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Earlene; children Jack (Cheryl) Barnes of Joplin, MO, Rick (Carolyn) Barnes of Tarpin Springs, FL, and Terry (Pat) Barnes of Apache Junction, AZ; and five grandchildren Jenny, Robbie, Rodney, Tera, and Amy.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ethel Lonergan; and by one brother Jim Lonergan.
Visitation will be Monday, November 16, 2015, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Allen of Meadowridge Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
