George P. MacDermott, 87, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha, WI.
George was born November 16, 1927, in Calumet, MI, and served with the United States Army as a Corporal during World War II. He was retired from Allis-Chalmers. During his retirement he was employed by the Village of Winthrop Harbor with the Recreation Department, serving as one of the first Park Maintenance Managers. George loved woodworking, stained glass, and model trains.
Survivors include his loving wife, JoAnn; daughters, Kathy Hicks of Las Vegas, NV, Kim (Carl) Ano of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Marcia (Charles) Van Sant of Grayslake, IL; grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) Hicks of Las Vegas, NV, (their son, Cole Hicks) Marc and Nick Ano of Portland, OR; and sister, Sally Hansen of York, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clayton and Sarah MacDermott; grandson, Derek Hicks; son-in-law, Coy Hicks; brother, William MacDermott; and sister, Margaret (MacDermott) McCormack.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Pastor Doug Carlson of Grace Missionary Church of Zion, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
