George J. O'Donnell, 78, of Beach Park, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 22,2012, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville ,IL, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 26, 1933, in Waukegan and married Irene Gdowski on October 8, 1955, at Our Lady of Humility Church, Beach Park, IL, where George is a member. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from Fansteel in North Chicago after about 30 years of employment. George was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Zion Lodge #667. His favorite hobbies included photography and walking. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who never missed any activity his grandchildren were involved in. George loved the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame football.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela (Richard) Porter of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Kathy (Raymond) Gornik of Zion, IL; grandchildren, Jason C. Porter, Jamie C. Porter, and Jessica C. Porter; great-granddaughter, Danielle B. Porter; sister, Barbara (Max) Vogel of Kenosha, WI; brother, Raymond O'Donnell of Waukegan, IL; and many nieces and nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene in November of 2005; and his parents, Herbert and Helen O"Donnell.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Deacon Bob Ochsner of Our Lady of Humility Church, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A Chapel Interment Service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
