Gerald J. Litewski, 85, of Zion, IL died on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at home surrounded by family.
He was born September 10, 1930 in Chicago, IL and moved to Kenosha, WI in 1943. On August 8, 1953 he married Barbara Bennett at North Prairie United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Church. Gerald retired in 1995 after 41 years from The Waukegan News Sun newspaper. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged after being wounded in Korea.
Gerald was an avid gardner, woodworker, and enjoyed leather crafting. As a hobby he had a deep appreciation of history and politics and recording vintage radio and television programs. But most of all he loved his family.
Survivors include his children Larry (Sue) Litewski of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Michael (Patricia) Litewski of Zion, IL, Daniel (Jennifer) Litewski of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Susan (Ronald) Wendricks of Waukegan, IL; nine grandchildren Jacob Litewski, Gabriel Litewski, Sarah Townsend, Audrey Mayfield, Tiffany Grahn, Tonya Frost, Robert Litewski, Caryn Block, and Jonathon Litewski; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Barbara on September 2, 2015; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Lawrence and Ruby Bennett; his father and mother John and Belle Litewski; and siblings Dorothy Baldrick, Walter Litewski, and Donald Litewski.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 2015, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31st, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, Newport Township, IL.
