Ghele R. Mack
On Thursday, April 15, 2010, just as the sun began to lower itself to the earth, the Son lowered himself and took Ghele R. Mack into His bosom and carried her into His Kingdom for eternity.
Ghele was born Ghele Romona Marshall on August 2, 1928 to the union of Naomi Williamson Marshall and Joseph Albert Marshall. She lived all of her life in Zion, Illinois. Ghele attended East School until 1936 and then went on to Lakeview School. She learned to play the drums and the piano as a child. She would enter contests for drum playing and even won a few. She was a graduate of Zion-Benton High School Class of 1947.
Ghele grew up in all churches. She would accompany her mother to the elocution recitals, plays, and programs her mother put on. Wherever her mother went on Sunday's to perform, Ghele went. Every Sunday night she would end up in a church service somewhere. After High School, Ghele joined the Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church in North Chicago, Illinois.
Ghele was hired in 1947 at the Navy Electronics Supply Office (ESO) at Great Lakes, Illinois. She stayed there until her first retirement 27 years later in 1974. On August 2, 1953, Ghele was joined in marriage to Harold Lorenzo Mack by Rev. W. D. Kilgore. To this union were born two children, Malcolm Daniel "Danny" and Myna Jo. Ghele and was additionally blessed with a step-daughter, Harriett LaRue. Ghele didn't stay retired for long, she continued her service to the public at the City of Zion. Ghele worked as a Clerk for the next 12 years until her final retirement. She was a familiar face to many who visited the Zion City Hall.
Ghele leaves thousands of cherished memories to surviving loved ones: step-daughter, Harriett LaRue (Dr. Joe) Trotter of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania; son, Danny of Zion, Illinois and daughter, Myna Jo (Micheal) Jenkins of Waukegan, Illinois; two grandchildren, Malcolm Daniel Mack Jr. of Lawton, Oklahoma and JaMyla Naomi Moriah Jo Clark of Waukegan, Illinois; one God-daughter and cousin, Susan (Russell) Corbett of North Chicago, Illinois; two cousins, Vanessa Greathouse of Waukegan and Rev. Clarence (Karen Jarrett) Evans of Gurnee, Illinois; two special cousins, U.S. Ambassador Dr. Cynthia Shepherd Perry of Houston, Texas and Sylvia White of Baltimore, Maryland; and one special friend, Sharon (Ronnie) Ransom of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ghele was preceded into the Kingdom by her parents, Joseph and Naomi Marshall; her infant brother, Dexter Marshall; and her husband, Harold L. Mack.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Christian Center, 524 10th Street, Waukegan, Illinois with Bishop Solomon Smith officiating.
