Gina Lynn Copen, born on August 7, 1970, in Waukegan, IL, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Zion, IL.
Gina was a proud graduate of Zion-Benton High School. Gina earned her master’s degree in education, dedicating her career to nurturing and inspiring young minds.
Gina was known for her adventurous spirit, often embarking on driving adventures and road trips with her best friend, Kelly. She found joy in camping, bike riding, and shopping, always cherishing the moments spent with her children and grandchildren. Gina’s love for theater also enriched her life, running a theatre company with Kelly for ten years, allowing her to share her passion for the arts with those around her. Gina also had a passion for animals, especially her “Journey pup pup” and rescuing stray kittens.
Deeply religious, Gina was an active member of The Well Church in Kenosha where she served on the tech team every weekend. She actively participated in many church-related activities including PADS, Bible study, and the Food Pantry, reflecting her passion for service and fellowship.
Above all, Gina was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, whose unwavering faith guided her through life’s challenges.
Gina is survived by her best friend Kelly Schaab, sons Johnny Bell (Selena), Justin Copen (Monica), nephew Jimmy R Bell Jr, sister Lori Ryan (John) brother Jamie Copen (Linda), grandchildren Skylar, Pipper, Cylis, Kaeden, Johnathan, Lucca, soon to be grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents James and Virginia Copen, baby sister and bonus mom Mary Schaab.
Gina gained her wings alongside her daughter Cristal Copen and brother Scott Copen.
Friends and family will meet for a visitation on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 at The Well Church, 9001 17th Ave, Kenosha, WI 53143. A memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 2:00. Gina will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
