Glenn Dunning, 83, of Zion, died on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Glenn was born November 14, 1925 in Chicago and he graduated in 1943 from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL. Following graduation, he served with the Marine Corp Airwing during World War II and Korea, retiring after 19 years. He was the honored recipient of two Distinguished Flying Crosses.
Glenn worked for many years in banking at various banks in the area and retired as President of Glenview State Bank. He was a member of Meadowridge Baptist Church of Zion where he served as a greeter each week and he was Past President of Lake County Shriner's.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty; children, Patricia Reed of Antioch, Sherry (Gary) Bowker of Wildwood, and Vicki (Terry) Florio of Lake Geneva, WI; eight grandchildren, Christina (Charles) Norman, Heather (William) Beuschen, Jodi (Trevor) Burnette, Michael (Sara) Reed, Jeremy (Clarissa) Florio, Holly (Clary) Kammer, Zachary (Kerry) Florio and Heidi (Gardiner) Wade; and 11 great-grandchildren, Summer, Destinee, River, Levi, Nicholas, Clay, Madison, Savannah, Emma, Taylor and Quinn.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Dunning; and his parents, Charles Edward and Lillian (nee Misicka) Dunning.
Visitation will be Monday, December 22, 2008, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Whitworth of Meadowridge Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
Memorial donations to either the Shriner's Hospital of Chicago, or, the Alzheimer's Association, have been suggested.
