Gloriette Marlene Schultz

1931 — September 7, 2016

Gloriette Marlene (Peterson) Schultz, 85, of Waukegan, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Gloriette was born on January 14, 1931 to Edwin and Mary (Emanuelson) Peterson whose families were both founding members of the City of Zion and Christian Catholic Church in the early 1900’s. Her grandfather, Herman Peterson, was a Deacon of the Church, and her aunt, Ida Emanuelson, was married to CCC’s second Overseer Wilbur Glenn Voliva. Gloriette was a very generous, kind, loving, confident, vibrant, God-fearing and God-loving person. She always wore a smile on her face even when suffering or in pain. She attended Zion Parochial School and graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1948. Gloriette was very active in organizing her class reunions. In August of 1949, she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) H. Schultz, and they married one year later on August, 5, 1950 at Christian Catholic Church in Zion, Illinois. Last August, they celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary with their children and grandchildren. Together, they raised their family in North Chicago until their move to Waukegan in 1969. In May of that year, she and Dick established Gloriette Bridal & Boutique which she operated for 30 years. She knew nothing about the business, but her mother, Mary, and Aunt Ida left Heins Department Store’s Bridal Department to join Gloriette in her venture, bringing their knowledge of the business with them. She employed 30 others over the years and served clientele from as far away as Rockford and Milwaukee. Gloriette is survived by her daughter Ardith (Gary) Laine, sons Fred Schultz and Dr. Richard (Debra) Schultz, grandchildren Nikolas Schultz (Tiffany McBride), Matthew Laine (Chelsea Gallagher), Paige Schultz (Jordan Enwright) and Fallon Schultz, all of whom she absolutely adored. She is also survived by her two sisters, Bonnie Epker, Rosemary (Al) Brean, and brother, Eric Peterson; sister-in-law Marie Worth; brothers-in-law John (Evelyn) Schultz, and Bill (Doris) Schultz; also a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Gary; parents, Edwin and Mary; infant sister, Jacqueline Delores; father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Katherine Schultz; brothers-in-law, Jack Worth and Bob Epker; nephew Jim Worth. Visitation will be Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, Illinois. On Monday, September 12th at Christ Community Church (Christian Catholic Church), 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, there will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park. The remains of her husband, Richard, and son, Gary, will be interred along with her.
