Grace Kennedy

Grace L. Kennedy, 77, of Winthrop Harbor, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. Grace was born November 8, 1930 in Winthrop Harbor. She had worked at Hy-Way Restaurant in Zion for many years and was a member of the Winthrop Harbor Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her children Geraldine Gray of Zion, Terry Kennedy of Winthrop Harbor, Steven Kennedy of Winthrop Harbor, Sherry Kennedy of Winthrop Harbor and Mary (Jerry Sr.) Powles of Dongola, Illinois; six grandchildren, Angela, Heather, Derreck, Lauren, Kristina and Hannah; twelve great-grandchildren; and siblings Leona Smitherman of Winthrop Harbor, Carl Townsend of Tennessee, Forest (June) Townsend of Florida, Harry (Lucy) Townsend of Zion, Florence (Johnny) Mathis of Florida and Robert Townsend of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Kennedy, in 2002; her great-grandson, Jake; and her parents Omer and Elsie Townsend. Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2008, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7th, at 10:30 a.m., at the Congdon Funeral Home with Rev. Gay Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
