H. Dudley Cooprider, 84, of Zion, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Midwestern Regional Medical Center, Zion, IL.
Dudley was born August 24, 1928, in Winthrop Harbor, IL, the 5th child of H.M. and Cecile Cooprider, and was a 1946 graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School. He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion for 63 years. On August 19,1950, he married Ramona May Michael at that same church. Dudley also served the church as head usher for 30 years and was active with Boy Scout Troop #63 as Assistant Scout Master and Webelos Leader. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #1027 for 49 years. In 1970 he lovingly donated a kidney to his brother, Cleo. Dudley retired from Johnson Motors in January of 1979 at the age of 50 after 32 years of employment as a Methods Engineer. He worked for 6 years as a Limousine Driver at the Midwestern Regional Medical Center and then was a volunteer there for 14 years. He designed and built the family home at the age of 21. His wife, Ramona still lives there. He and Ramona enjoyed square dancing with the Swingin & Sweds Square Dance Club. He also served as an election judge. For 14 years, Dudley and Ramona enjoyed wintering in Weslaco, TX.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; 3 sons, Tom (Kelly), David (Donna), and Bill (Sonja); grandchildren; Katie, Laura, Anne, Kara, Kristyn, Robin, Matthew, and Logan; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Noah, Angelina, Venny, Ava, and Isaac.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everette, Cleo, and James; and sister, Mavis.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan, Rd., Zion, IL, and again on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Kwadwo Ntim, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
