H. Lee Deming , 86, of Zion, passed away on March 14, 2014 in Libertyville, IL.
He was born December 23, 1927, in Jackson, TN, and spent 26 years serving in the U.S. Army. After retiring from military service in 1972 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4, Lee served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Awana, the Zion Passion Play, the Gideon's, Camp Zion, and the Zion Historical Society. He was an active church member and enjoyed playing golf and making trips to his cabin in Door County.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Shirley; three children, Christopher (Joyce) Deming of London, KY, Thomas (Barbara) Deming of Charlotte, NC, and Rebecca Deming of Zion, IL; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Benjamin, Jefferson, and Sarah; and a great-grandson, Zachary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Zula Belle Deming; and his brothers, James and William Deming.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, Illinois. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Ft. Sheridan Post Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the Camp Zion Ministry of Christ Community Church.
