Harold James Grashen, 73, of Waukegan, accepted the hand of our precious Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Harold was born February 19, 1935 to James Charles and Josephine Kathryn Grashen in Zion, IL. He was a member of the Christian Catholic Church (Christ Community Church), the church that founded the city of Zion. Harold assisted in the family business, "The Grashen Sweet Meat Turkey Farm". Attending Zion public schools before moving to Waukegan, where he later graduated from Waukegan Township High School. In 1947, he met his childhood sweetheart, Minnie, the wife and mother of his eight children, Harold served in the United States Air Force for eight years. He worked from 1958-1993 in dentistry at Ft. Sheridan along with a number of other supplementary jobs until his full retirement in 1998. Harold truly loved the outdoors in every aspect.
He was a man of God, survived by his wife of 54 years, Minnie L. Grashen (nee Sanders); eight children, Sandra, Greg (Almadelia), Mark, Sharon, Sherri, Matthew (Patty), Shelah, and Joel (Lindsay); father figure and spiritual mentor to Nico Faulk, Lisa Johnson, Scotty and Monte Cornelius and many more; sister, Ruth (Charles) Kelley; brother-in-law and best friend, Raleigh (Idorine) Muhammed; brothers-in-law, Ahmed Kalid and Leonard Gregory; sister-in-law, Louise Lloyd; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; uncles, Carl, Joe, and Clifford; sisters, Rhoda Brown and Rachel Collymore; brother, George Paul Grashen; brother-in-law, Willie Sanders, Jr; grandson, Mark C. Grashen; great-grandson, Savion Woods; nephews, Phillip and David Penny, James Rab Grashen, and Arien Torey Peterson.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at Calvary Harvest Church, 5501 Stearns School Rd, Gurnee, IL. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
