Harry L. Townsend

Harry L. Townsend, 76, of Zion, IL, born to the late Omer & Elsie Townsend in Zion, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Harry founded Townsend Construction in Zion worked as a contractor in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin for many years. He was a faithful follower of Christ who helped establish several churches. He was currently a member of The Well Church, Kenosha, WI. He also enjoyed oil painting and he enjoyed studying Greek and biblical history. Later in life he decided to take up computer programming. Harry also loved to play guitar and discuss scripture. Loving husband of Lucetta; beloved awesome father, pops of Steve (Kris), Roberta (Stephen), Marietta (Jay) (the late Larry Stanford), John, David (Dawn), and James; earthly hero, mentor, pops, grandpa of 15; proud great-grandfather of 27; brother to Leona Smitherman ( the late Berlie Lindsey, the late Frank Smitherman), the late Carl Townsend, the late Grace (the late Gerald) Kennedy, the late Forest (June) Townsend, Florence (John) Mathis, and the late Robert (the late Carol) Townsend; uncle to many nieces and nephews; and a friend and mentor to many. Visitation will be Monday, May 23, 2016, from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Stanford of The Well Church, Kenosha, WI and Pastor Stephen Porter of MN officiating. Private interment will be later at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to The Well Church, 9001 - 17th Ave., Kenosha, WI 53143 have been suggested.
