Helen Magers Bachman of Zion, formerly of Vernon Hills, died on February 13, 2016.
She was born July 5, 1937 in LaCross, IN, the daughter of Joseph Thomas Magers and Gladys Cleo Magers (nee Emberton). She married Clarence Andrew Bachman November 16, 1957. Helen graduated from Mundelein College in Chicago in 1975. She was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park, IL where she sang in the choir.
Helen enjoyed gardening. In Zion they lived on a large lot and together with her husband they created a beautiful garden worthy to be featured in Zion’s garden walk. She loved scouring the nurseries, catalogues, and books for plants and flowers. She was always on the lookout for pretty rocks to bring home no matter how heavy they were or how far they had to travel with them. She also enjoyed sewing and was always making something to add beauty to their home.
She worked as personnel manger at Ball Brothers Corp. and later at Cheshire Corp., both in Mundelein, IL. After that she went into personal banking. She excelled at her work and was honored with many awards. Still when it came time to retire she was glad to be able to spend more time at home.
In the end she just couldn’t sit quietly - she had to keep going until her body collapsed. Now she rests in peace.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years Clarence: one daughter Suzanne Banta; one grandson Zachary Banta; and a daughter-in-law Denise Bachman.
She was preceded in death by one son Lee James Bachman; three sisters; two brothers; and her parents.
Services will be private for the family.
