Davis, Helen age 93, passed away on January 15, at her home in Winthrop Harbor where she had lived for the past 60 years. She was born on May 5, 1919 in Racine, Wisconsin to Mike and Eva Perpich. She was raised in North Chicago, where she spent her childhood and early adult life.
As a young adult, she worked with her father in the family business, The Sheridan Inn, a tavern on Sheridan Road in North Chicago. She married Glen "Bud" Davis on April 21, 1953. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park for over 50 years. After her marriage to Bud, she was his partner and bookkeeper in their family business, Glen Davis Excavating until their retirement.
Helen enjoyed trying new recipes, and adding to her collection of cookbooks, numbering over 300! She loved visiting with her cousins and childhood girlfriends and having them around the kitchen table to reminisce about their many good times together. She was especially proud of her Croatian heritage. But what gave her the most pleasure was her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her children, Mike Richardt of Winthrop Harbor, Ken (Debbie) Richardt of Winthrop Harbor, and Gloria (Ron) Parks of Zion; 16 grandchildren including, Richie (Valerie) Krause, Gretchen (Chris) Hutter, Christopher Richardt, Elisabeth (Terry) Whitlock, Joshua Richardt, and Megan Richardt. She is further survived by Bud's daughters, Darlene (Alan) Anderson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Rose Marie (Joe) Worley of Palm Coast, Florida, and Linda Maguire of West Plaines, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud in 1978, her parents, her sister, Catherine Perpich, brothers, John and Frank Perpich, and grandson Ken Niemi.
We would like go give special thanks to her caregiver of the last several months, Ruth Mensah.
