Helen Mitchell

Helen Elizabeth Mitchell, 79, of Zion, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, February 29, 2008 following a long battle with Alzheimer's at Sheridan Health Care Center in Zion. Helen was born June 21, 1928 in Tremont, Mississippi and has lived in Zion most of her life, graduating from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1946. She began working at Johnson Motors but was known best for her work as a hostess/waitress first at Archdale's, the Rustic Manor and Madison Avenue Restaurants, retiring in 2000. She was a life-long charter member of Our Lady of Humility Church of Beach Park. Helen enjoyed gardening and flowers and her crocheting. Survivors include her children Greg (Julie) Mitchell of Zion, Jim (Jeanne) Mitchell of Sigourney, Iowa, Cathy (Rick) Hutchison of Winthrop Harbor, Sandy (Dave) Braden of Beach Park and Laurie (Dave) Serdar of Winthrop Harbor; nine grandchildren Allen and Matt Hutchison, Cassandra and Taylor Braden, Sarah and Stacie Serdar, Janette Chaplin, Patty Harr and Kala Kading; four great-grandchildren Kelsi, Lenox, Elyssa and Allison; and several dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry "Jim" Mitchell in 1983; two sisters Hazel "Kay" Pulaski and Judith Ann Roetzer; her parents Paul and Verma Hamilton; and her dog companion "Brandy". Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, March 3, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, Illinois. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday, March 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at Our Lady of Humility Church.
