Helen Eloyd Murley, 83, died at home surrounded by loved ones Monday, February 8, 2016. She was born in Jericho, MS to the late Robert and Lanie Melson.
Helen married Perry Murley on June 26, 1949 in Tippah County, MS and they moved to the Zion area in 1951. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by family and friends. Helen was an active member of Meadowridge Baptist Church. She coordinated many ministries over the years but she cherished most teaching young children about their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She retired in 1987 as a Computer Systems Analyst from Great Lakes Naval Base, having risen to that position by sheer grit and persistence while at the same time raising three daughters, keeping an immaculate home, and being a loving wife to Perry. Helen somehow managed to do it all yet still make time for reading, sewing, crocheting, growing flowers, and developing numerous lifelong friendships.
Survivors include three daughters, Nita G. (David) Kirtz, and Martha A. Martin, both of Beach Park, and Deborah R. (Edward) Chimahusky of Fremont, OH; one sister Juanita Robison of Tupelo, MS; six grandchildren David (Racquel), Jane, and Patrick Chimahusky, Kathryn Kirtz, Jason (Ashley) and Mariah Martin; and eight great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Michael, and her parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Allen officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to Meadowridge Baptist Church.
