Helen E. West

1916 — April 5, 2018

Helen E West, (nee Wingate), 101, of Winthrop Harbor, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 5, 2018.  She was born September 16, 1916 in Crystal Lake, IL to the late Clyde and Florence Olcott Wingate.  Helen retired from Beach Park School District after 36 years of teaching and then went on to work at Baxter Healthcare in Deerfield for another 7 years.

Helen is survived by her son, George; a daughter, Marian Swanson; two grandchildren, Ginger Storrs and Joyce (Michael) Kendall; four great grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Storrs and Alexis and Jackson Kendall; and a special family friend, Marleen Turner.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Roy Wingate, Edna Dornbush, and Lucille Bishop; son-in-law, Kevin Swanson; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Kay West and William (Billy) Wayne West.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL with a memorial service immediately following at 10:00 am.  Helen will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.  In lieu of flowers, donations to a no-kill pet shelter, A Place for Hope, 612 W Lincoln Rd, McHenry, IL 60051 would be appreciated.
