Herman Henke

Herman "Bud" Henke Jr., 63, of Winthrop Harbor, IL died suddenly on May 31, 2014. He was born in Waukegan and was raised in Zion. He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1968, received his Associates Degree in Horticulture from College of Lake County, received a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Rockford College, and received his Masters in Business Administration from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. He was a longtime member of Christ Community Church of Zion where he served with the Zion Guards. Herman was employed at Washington Mutual in Vernon Hills, IL. He was a member of Son's Of The American Legion Post #865 of Zion, the American Genealogical Society, was an active member of A.A.R.P., and was a former member of both the Millburn Masonic Lodge and the Zion-Benton Moose. Hobbies included Genealogy and Horticulture, birds and horses, enjoying the calming waters of Lake Michigan, and was an amateur photographer. Survivors include his wife of 29 years Bernice; children Mary Kristin Unger of Nixa, MO and Barbara Amanda Henke (fiancé Frank Koski) of Columbia, TN; six grandchildren Justin, Jordon, Joshua, Jessica, Kelsey, and Katie; and siblings Donna J. (Ked) Beasley of Bloomington, IN and Paul H. Henke of Mt. Prospect, IL. He was preceded in death by father and mother Herman and Margaret Henke; one infant sister; paternal grandparents Herman and Augusta Henke; and maternal grandparents Ira and NellieHaag. Visitation will be Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to a Veteran's organization of your choice, or the American Diabetes Association have been suggested.
