Ingeborg E. Roberts, 84, was called away suddenly on Friday, June 18, 2010, leaving behind many cherished memories to every one who knew her.
Ingeborg was born September 13, 1925, and raised in Germany where she witnessed first hand the horrors and suffering of World War II; she overcame those hardships and found her true calling as a compassionate and highly respected registered nurse. One day as a young lady in Germany she stopped into a drugstore and met an American soldier, they struck up a conversation over a Coca- Cola and formed a lifelong bond. Ingeborg and Sgt. Conley Roberts were wed while in Germany and would later relocate back to the states where Ingeborg would become a proud United States citizen. All through her life Ingeborg maintained her German traits, she was meticulous, thorough, generous, strong willed and determined. She was a nurse at both Victory Memorial Hospital (Vista Medical Center East) and American International Hospital (Midwestern Regional Medical Center) and a long time resident of Waukegan and Zion.
Ingeborg leaves behind her three children, Sandra (Tom) Adkins, Linda Lou (Mike) Cavanaugh, and Bo (Michelle) Roberts; and three grandchildren, Gavin Cavanaugh, and Derek and Haley Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Roberts.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL.
