Barlow, James D. 74, of Waukegan passed away on June 14, 2013 in Waukegan.
James was born March 1, 1939 at home in Woodbury, Connecticut. He graduated from highschool in Woodbury, then went on to graduate from college in Lake County, Il with a variety of associates degrees. He married Anne Marie Bean in Torrington, CT on January 10, 1960. James retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service. He went on to work at the Glenview NAS Golf Course for 20 years, also for the Glenview Park District for 2 years, he was a teacher at the San Diego Community College in Great Lakes, IL, and was also a lunchroom supervisor for the Beach Park School District. James was a member and past officer of the Waukegan Elk Lodge #702, a member of the VFW, and was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts. James enjoyed gardening, camping, and the radio controlled air plane club. He was a very patriotic man, loved his dogs and was always a lot of fun to be around.
James is survived by his sons, Jim (Lori) Barlow, and Mike (Tammy) Barlow; four grandchildren, Melissa Wellman, Michelle Barlow, Mikey Wellman, and Mellissa Barlow; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne Marie Barlow; daughter, Cathy Ann Barlow; grandson, Sean Michael Barlow; and many adored K-9 companions.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will follow at Ft. Sheridan Post Cemetery in Highwood, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
