James Joseph Cochran, 87, born April 13, 1920, in Rosiclare, IL, departed this life on Tuesday, March 11, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. His parents were Otto Cochran Sr., and Effie Bliss Cochran.
James graduated in 1939 from Rosiclare High School and married Lucille Hufford in 1941. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the south pacific, and was a member of the American Legion.
James was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching all sports. He remained a St. Louis Cardinal fan throughout his life time. James was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waukegan. He married Virginia Gulsby in 1952, and after retiring from the Chrysler Corporation in Kenosha, WI, he lived in Mesa, AZ, for ten years. James then returned to Waukegan. In 2001 he moved to Rolling Hills Place in Zion. (A place he lovingly called his mansion).
Survivors include a step-daughter, Doris Lewis of Waukegan, IL; brother, Otto Cochran Jr. of Portsmouth, VA; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, Clyde Thomas Cochran; stepfather, Ezra Estes; and his wife, Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 18 2008, at 2:00 p.m., at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with Rev. Gehl Devore, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
