James Vincent Grana, 93, of Waukegan, IL died on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at home.
He was born March 27, 1920 in Waukegan. James married Myrtle Ruth Martin on November 5, 1948 in Waukegan. He was a Veteran of WWII and was probably the last surviving crew member to have served on the USS Yorktown in WWII with the United States Navy. He retired from V. R. Wesson after over 40 years. For many years he was a member of Waukegan Elk's Club. James enjoyed fishing but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons Vincent (Shirley Claypool) Grana of San Jose, CA, Martin (Susan) Grana of Beach Park, IL, and Michael Grana of Waukegan, IL; former daughter-in-law Dianne Grana of; eight grandchildren James Grana, David (Jenny) Grana, Joseph (Tricia) Grana, Dana (Levi) Grana, Jennifer (Wayne) Ruffley, Matthew (Jenny) Grana, Megan Grana, and Joseph (Kelly) Grana; ten great-grandchildren Brandon, Emily, Melody, Evan, Jadyn, Aiden, Jaci, Rinoa, Gianna, and Lorenzo; one sister Angelina Jeffers of Milwaukee, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Ruth Grana in 2006; his parents Guiseppe and Antoinette Grana; and many brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m.
