James Oliver Hahn, 78, of Beach Park, IL, passed away at Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born, February 21, 1937, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Dr. Herman and Jean Hahn. He was the eldest of four sons. On January 1, 1958 he married Mary Josephine Mathwig, the love of his life since the age of 12, at St. Paul's Cathedral in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. They were married for 52 years and together raised seven children. James served his country with one tour of duty in Korea with the United States Air Force and his field of expertise was electronics. He built his career from there working for various electronics companies. After extensive traveling, he decided to start his own electronics repair business with his wife, Mary. After many years, Mary’s health began to decline and James dedicated the next several years caring for her, putting all else aside until her death in 2010. He spent the last few years continuing his “hobby” of electronic repair and was able to attend a few concerts of his favorite performers. He enjoyed listening to music and old time radio shows and loved watching nostalgic television programs. He was able to revisit his home town of North Fond du Lac on a few occasions with his family.
He is survived by one brother, William Hahn of Marshfield Hills, MA, his children James R. (Barbara) Hahn, of Stoughton, WI, Jean Hahn, of Beach Park, IL, Emily (Jeff) O'Brien, of Waukegan, IL, Lori (Erich) Ayasse, of Tomahawk, WI, Shelly (Steve) Thomas, of Virginia Beach, VA, Mark (Tracy) Hahn, of Zion, IL and Michael (Christina) Hahn, of Colorado Springs, CO, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, two brothers, Herman and Richard, a nephew and 2 children.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Mary, the nurse with VITAS Hospice Services and Sheridan Medical Complex for all of their compassion and care they provided for our father.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A formal service will begin at 7:00 pm. A private family service and interment will be at St. Paul’s Cathedral and Reinzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin at a later date.
