James 'Tom' Shelton, 68, of Beach Park, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 11, 2010 surrounded by his loving, devoted family. Tom was born in Corinth, MS, and moved to Zion at a young age. Tom married the love of his life, Luanna Riggs, in 1963. Tom was a deacon at Meadow Ridge Baptist Church in Zion and was retired from Jewel Food Stores. Tom is survived by his wife, Luanna, and his two children, Mark (Toni Ann), of Plainfield, IL, and Tracy (Dru) Taplin, of Troy, IL and eight grandchildren, Brent, Clayton, Zachary and Mason Shelton, and Cody, Dillon, Grace and Samuel Taplin, his loving mother, Mary Helen Shelton, loving mother-in-law, Louise Riggs, loving sister and brother, Charlotte Davis and Bill Shelton. Tom was preceded in death by his father, James Maynard Shelton, his father-in-law, Wendell Riggs, his brother Ronnie, and his brother-in-law, Daniel Smith. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June, 15th at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 noon. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorials may be made to either Baptist Children's Home and Family Services, 949 County Rd. 1300 N., Carmi, Illinois 62821, or Shepherd's Inc., 1805 15th Avenue, Union Grove, WI 53182.
