Jane Elizabeth Hastings, 72, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, passed away peacefully at her home on December 10, 2011 following a courageous battle with a long illness.
She was born in Kenosha, WI, on August 28, 1939, to parents Alice (Tradewell) and Walter Van Harpen. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford in 1957 and lived most of her life in Kenosha. While raising three children and working two part-time jobs she attended the UW-Parkside and earned a BA degree in English in 1976. She was previously married to Donald Morzfeld but they later divorced. On March 3, 1978 she married James Hastings. Following her part-time jobs Jane was the Administrative Director of Meridian House LTD, an alcohol and drug rehabilitation agency for 15 years. She was also the office manager at Sunnyside Florists until her retirement in 2003. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kenosha shortly before graduation from high school and also joined the church's Chancel Choir at that time. She has been an active member of both since then. She was a past member of the Kenosha Blood Bank where she donated a total of 124 pints, holding the record for the highest donation by a woman for many years. She is also a member of the American Association of University Women. Her passions were spending time with her family and friends, her miniature Schnautzer Sara, watching movies, swimming, and volunteering at the Shalom Center which she did up until the time of her death. Her favorite place to travel to was the annual Apple Festival in Bayfield, Wisconsin to watch the marching bands.
She is survived by her husband James; sons, Todd and Barry Morzfeld, both of Kenosha; daughter, Chris (James) Thiele of Salem.
