Jane “Mrs. Zippy” Tumosa, 92, of Beach Park, IL died on Sunday, February 7, 2016 in Chicago.
She was born January 31, 1924 in Chicago and moved to Zion in 1961 to open the first fast food hamburger restaurant in Zion, “Zippy’s”. In was open for 23 years on Sheridan Road in Zion and run by Jane and Art Tumosa and family. Jane enjoyed performing on stage with her Lithuanian Folk Dance Group and continued to dance for her personal enjoyment throughout her life. She also enjoyed exploring the shores of Lake Michigan and was a founding member of the Edgewater Shores Association for the protection and preservation of Lake Michigan’s wildlife, aquatic life, beaches, and lakefront.
Survivors include children Mary (Pat) Lawler of AZ, Tom Tumosa of CA, and Laura (Ken) Ward of CO; three grandchildren Carly, Tommy, and Chris; and her life-long best friend Lillian Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art; and parents Albert and Anna matecun.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Orphans Of The Storm Animal Shelter, 2200 Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods, IL 60015 have been suggested.
