Janice Sandefur

1926 — March 7, 2007

Janice Ilene Sandefur, 80, of Beach Park, IL departed her earthly life suddenly on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at home. Janice was born on August 25, 1926 in rural Benton Township, the beloved daughter of John and Ellen Shafer. Janice grew up on a farm, attended Zion-Benton Township High School and went on to graduate from nursing School at Grant Hospital. She retired from Victory Memorial Hospital after many years of service in the department she loved, the nursery. Janice married William Arch Sandefur on February 13, 1954. They were blessed with three daughters, Cynthia (Harvey) Holland of Beach Park, Kimberlee Sandefur of Centralia, IL and Nancy Sandefur of Zion; three grandsons, John Holland, Andrew Holland and James Gumm; a granddaughter, Tami Gumm; and a great-grandson, Anthony Angeloff Jr. She also leaves behind a group of life long friends who enjoyed playing cards, camping, country music and line dancing. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaugher, Janice Gumm. Visitation will be Sunday, March 11, 2007, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at the Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Wiziarde of Christ Community Church of Zion officiating. Private interment will be held later at Oakdale Cemetery, Newport Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Murray Developmental Center, home to Kimberlee for many years.
