Jasper "Jay" S. Owens, 73, of Beach Park, passed away at home on July 14, 2013.
Jay was born July 9, 1940 in Waukegan. He grew up in Chicago and graduated from Waller High School in 1959, he also lived in Germany for 3 years while serving in the United States Army. Jay married Nancy Lindquist in June of 1967 in Waukegan. He worked for A&P for 22 years and also in the physical plant services department at New Trier High School for 20 years, he and Nancy retired in 1998. Jay was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waukegan where he served on the church council as well as the finance committee, technology committee, and spent his time doing the grocery shopping for the yearly pasty sale. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox and NASCAR. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Jake, and feeding the birds.
Jay is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy; daughters Karen (Marc) Cohen, and Kathleen Owens; one grandson, Erik Cohen; sister Marlene Skowronski; brother William Matz; two sisters-in-law Rosemary Owens and Lillian (Henry) Trygar; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and one great-great-niece; as well as other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jasper S. Owens; mother Ina Owens Matz; step-father William Matz; father and mother-in-law John and Helen Lindquist; brother George Owens; and brother-in-law Michael Skowronski.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3350 N Delany Road, Waukegan with Pastor Jeffrey Koth, officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
