Jean A. Scheve, 89, of Zion, IL died September 7, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
Jean was born September 17, 1926 in Zion. He met the love of his life at the Waukegan Roller Rink and they were married for 66 years. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion and went on many mission trips to Kentucky with his wife, daughter, grandson and his wife, and church family. Over many years, he enjoyed square and round dancing and was a member of the Swinging Swedes and the Alemande Club. Jean was a WWII veteran, a member of the American Legion Zion-Benton Post #865, and had gone on two honor flights to Washington which were some of the best trips of his life. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, playing pool, cards and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Jean was one of the last lace weavers at the Zion Lace Factory, worked at Co-Op as a milk man, driver for Pepsi, and an electrician when he finally retired in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Leone; children, Nancy (Ray) Friederichs, Gary (Lynne) Scheve; grandchildren, Kevin, Ryan (Erika) Friederichs, Ed and Darcey Helmkamp; great-granchildren, Jessica Friederichs, Sincere Joshua; sister, Laurel Huddleston; and many nieces, nephews and friends here and in Texas where he wintered for 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Lee Scheve; parents, William and Frances Scheve; and siblings, Bob, William (Orvin), and Daniel (Gina) Scheve.
A visitation will take place Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jean to Memorial United Methodist Church.
