In Loving Memory of
Jerrid D. Myers (1938 - 2024) 1034 Months
Jerrid D. Myers, a cherished lifelong resident of Zion, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 11, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 86 years old.
Throughout his vibrant life, Jerry exemplified dedication and loyalty. In his teenage years, he began working at Zion Industries alongside his father, James E. Myers, who led the engineering department. Following this foundational experience, Jerry proudly served his country as an Army Veteran, completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and later serving in Korea. Upon returning home, he joined Johnson Motors as a machine repairman, a position he held for 30 years before retiring in 1991.
Jerry's heart was closely intertwined with that of his wife, Betty, whom he married in a beautiful union that lasted for 62 years, until her passing just eight months ago in October 2023. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories.
As a grandfather and great-grandfather, Jerry found boundless joy in the presence of his three great-grandchildren—Aya, Jerrid (affectionately known as Medium Jerry), and Gene—who brought him immense happiness. His family was his everything.A passionate historian, Jerrid dedicated many years to researching the rich history of Zion and Dowie, amassing a collection of artifacts that tell the story of Zion City. Though he often wore a serious demeanor, those fortunate enough to know him were enriched by his quick wit and infectious sense of humor.
Jerrid is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his parents, James and Ruby Myers; and his siblings—brothers William and Gene Myers, and sisters Coralie Cox, Sherilyn VanSpankeren, and Joyce Fehler.
He leaves behind his loving son Thomas (Gina) Myers, grandsons Justin (Christina) Myers and Tyler (Jessica) Crawford, Roy Fields (IL) and Devin Fields (AZ) and granddaughter Nicole Fields, as well as his youngest sister, Virginia Adams of Zion, IL. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Aya, Jerrid, Gene, Annalee, Paislee, Aubree, Kailee, Gina, and Steven, along with numerous nieces and nephews spread across the country.
A private graveside burial will be held, and a celebration of Jerrid's life will take place at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and honor the legacy of a truly remarkable man.
