Jerry "Red" Moon, 63, of Zion, IL, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the V.A. Medical Center, North Chicago, IL. Jerry was born September 3, 1946, in Amory, MS, and married Madilyn Campbell on November 21, 1967, in Fayetteville, N.C. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. Jerry proudly served two tours with the United States Army in Vietnam with the 82nd, 101st, and 173rd Airborne Divisions and was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Madilyn of Joliet, IL; children, Bob (Jeanene) Moon of St. Louis, MO, Loretta Toth of Yorkville, IL, Shannon (Doug) Ahern of Waukegan, IL, David Moon of Sturtevant, WI, and Jennifer Moon of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Bo and Mimi Ahern and Caitlyn Moon and Alyssa Moon; brother, Randy (Becky) Moon of Zion, IL; nephew, Joshua Moon of Zion, IL; and mother of David and Jennifer, Linda Thorn of Kenosha, WI. Jerry is preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Emarene Moon; and an infant sister, Jean. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 15, 2009, from 500-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
