Joanne Ruth Goronson, (nee Kangas) 75, of lngleside, IL, formerly of Rock, MI, Gurnee, IL, Gages Lakes, IL, Boiling Springs, PA, died on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at home of complications associated with Parkinson's Disease.
She was born May 25, 1937, in Marquette, MI, and graduated from Warren Township High School in Gurnee in 1954. Joanne married Kenneth Goronson on August 14, 1954, in Waukegan, IL. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ingleside where she sang in the choir. Joanne retired as an employee of the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. She was an active member of the Chain O' Lakes Model "A" Club where she was instrumental in providing antique cars for the film, Road to Perdition. As a homemaker for many years, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Goronson; children, Kenneth (Maureen) Goronson Jr, of Falmouth, ME, Susan (William) Fishback of Winthrop Harbor, IL, William (Audri) Goronson of Wauconda, IL, and James Goronson of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Kristina Goronson, Eric Goronson, Nicole (Lyman) Faber, Stephanie (Robert) Hicks, Denise Fishback, and Lesley Goronson; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Aaden; brother, Carl (Heli) Kangas of Napa, CA; sisters, Gail Hietala of Paducah, KY and Carolyn Eshbaugh of Saegertown, PA; sisters-in-law, Kristine (Robert) Kretschmer, Linda (Dale) Pelzl, and Lee Erva Goronson; cousin, Tim Koski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Anne Kangas; brother, Fred Kangas; and brothers-in-law, Don Goronson and Stan Hietala,
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25519 Rte. 134, Ingleside, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
