Tom Allen
Born John Thomas Allen on November 15, 1935, Tom was a life long Zion resident. He joined the Postal Service at the age of 18 and carried mail in town for almost 40 years. Tom and wife Connie (Donohue) celebrated their 50th anniversary in October of 2013.
Tom was an avid Green Bay Packer fan who loved the outdoors in all weather, especially walking and hiking locally, in southern Wisconsin, and wherever he traveled. He was an avid bird watcher as well as a voracious reader with interests in meteorology, history, astronomy, and other sciences.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Connie, beloved daughter Nancy of La Crosse, Wisconsin, nephew and sister-in-law Ed and Nancy Allen of Kona, Hawaii, sisters-in-law Kathy (Chuck) Stewart of Grayslake, IL, Eileen Donohue of Zion, IL, brother-in-law Jim (Amy) Donohue of Rapid City, SD, many other nieces and nephews and friends in the area, and at the Winthrop Harbor VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ethel Allen, brothers Lawrence and Wilbur (Judy) Allen and sister Mae Blossom.
Visitation at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion will be Wednesday evening, July 2nd, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to memorials in Tom Allen's name at the Zion Benton Library, the Winthrop Harbor VFW, Post 7448, or the Midwest Care Center in Glenview Illinois are suggested.
