John Matthew Hatch

John Matthew Hatch was born on August 10, 1921 to William and Margaret Hatch in Chicago, IL.  John was called home to the Lord on February 22, 2018 at the age of 96. He was raised in Chicago, but spent most of his life in Zion, Illinois and Saxeville, WI.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army as an aircraft mechanic. He worked as a wire chief for the Illinois Bell Telephone and retired in 1976.

John loved the outdoors; designing and building his retirement home on Long Lake in Saxeville, WI.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cards and entertaining his family and friends during the summer months in Wisconsin . He spent winters in Port Richey, Florida with the love of his life Florence R. Hatch whom he married on May 26, 1946.

John was a devout Catholic and founding member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Zion, IL

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.  He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son, John (Brenda) of Lake Villa, IL son-in-law J Williams of Beach Park, IL, daughter in-law Laura Hatch of Libertyville and son in-law Tim Klebe of Lake Villa.  He is further survived by six grandchildren; Megeon (Russ) Bach, Kelly (Ed) Nipple, Jeremy (Sarah) Hatch, Jason Williams, Monica (Chad) McCollom and Bailey (Jon) Hilner and fifteen great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents William and Margaret, his wife Florence in 2012, sister Margaret, brother William, son William and daughters, Darlene and Debora.

A visitation will be held at the Congdon Funeral Home 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion, IL on Monday February 26, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m.  Interment will be held at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI on Friday March 2, 2018. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
