John Anthony Machak passed away peacefully at home on September 30th after a valiant battle against lung cancer. He was 62. John was born and raised in North Chicago, always proud of the “old Polish neighborhood” he grew up in.
After graduating North Chicago high school he worked for 5 years at Roquette in Waukegan. He began his career at Abbott/AbbVie in 1987 and almost made it to 35 years. He worked in the Chemicals Department before moving to Utilities. He was very proud of his perfect attendance and had to earn the certificate and luncheon they gave to the awardees every year.!
John enjoyed going up north for some fishing, even though sometimes it was a challenge to stay in the boat.
John was a honest, loyal, hardworking man with a big heart of gold. John had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved creating “goodies” for friends and family. He was a Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs fan. It was the best day and the worst day when the Cubbies won the World Series in 2016 as that’s when the cancer was discovered.
John fought hard until the end, never complaining, making jokes with everyone who came to see him. He wanted so much to live.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Rest In Peace sweet Baby Cakes.
