John E. Swedo

John Edward Swedo, age 85, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on October 27th, 2024. 

John was born on September 25th, 1939, at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan, IL. He graduated from Waukegan High School and later enlisted in the U.S Navy where he was stationed at Great Lakes and was a member of the construction battalion (CB). 

John married Kathy Swedo on August 27th, 1966, at St. Gilberts in Grayslake, IL. They were each other’s best friend and were married for 47 wonderful years. The two were blessed with three children: Brian, Brett, and Wendy. 

John worked as welder at Mckinney Steel and Sales and retired after over 40 years of working with the company. John was also a proud member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park, IL.

Besides being an active member within his church, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He often enjoyed going camping, working on puzzles, and putzing around outside. John always had a positive personality and was known for helping anyone.

John is survived by his three children, Brian (Debbie) Swedo of Lemont, IL, Brett Swedo of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, and Wendy (James) of Zion, IL; five grandchildren Erik (Julie) Swedo of Aurora, IL, Kristen (Josh) Shapiro of Westmont, IL, Joshua Sobecki of Kenosha, WI, Noah Swedo of St. Paul, Minnesota and Alyssa Sobecki of Zion, IL; five great grandchildren Nolan, Brooke, Hope, Caleb and Elise and his sister Patricia A Stanulis.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister (Margaret Dick) and his wife (Kathy Swedo).

Visitation will be held Monday November 4, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home.
