Johnny James Age 50, of North Chicago, IL passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL. Johnny was born in Chicago, IL on February 2, 1961 to the union of James and Voncile (nee Ferguson) Powell. He graduated from Crane High School in 1978, and later attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Cox. Johnny married Dorothy on December 3, 1982, and to the union was born one son, Jonathan. Johnny served in the United States Navy from 1982-1996. During a portion of that time he was stationed on the aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson. Johnny was later employed at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center for over 15 years, where he held several positions including most recently as a Domiciliary Rehabilitation Technician. Johnny is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dorothy Ferguson; one son, Jonathan (Tasha) Ferguson; two grandchildren, Jamir Marcus Ferguson and Jalena Michelle Ferguson all of North Chicago, IL; 3 brothers and 1 sister, Jerome (Connie) Ferguson of Seattle, WA, Norman (Paula) Ferguson, Larry Ferguson and Sheila (Cedric) Ford all of Chicago, IL; 3 foster siblings, Ruth, Irving, Marco and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, James and Voncile Powell; his maternal grandparents, Abraham (Tom) and Gladys Ferguson; and his paternal grandparents, Emmitt and Lou Powell. Visitation will be at Waukegan Community Church, 1016 Grand Avenue, Waukegan, IL on Friday July 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral immediately following at 11:00 a.m., Dr. Winfred Obleton officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
