Joi Palm was born on October 3, 1935 in Huntington, West Virginia. Her love of and compassion for all animals began in childhood, flourished throughout her lifetime and remained prominently intact – fully inclusive of her last day on this Earth. In adolescence, always spiritually driven & community active, she lent her support, unique perspectives and piano skills to Job’s Daughters. In June, 1953 she graduated Joliet High School in Joliet, Illinois. In the 1950’s and 1960’s she devoted her time energies and “Joie De Vivre” into raising her two young daughters; thereby instilling in them a lifelong love of music and dance. During that time she utilized her organizational, leadership and creativity skills to the Girl Scouts, P.T.A., Horseback Riding Groups, Golf and Bowling Leagues. From her early beginnings in the 1970’s through her retirement from The United States Postal Service in 2005, she continued to demonstrate how respectful, adaptive and resourceful qualities can create a more effective and comfortable workplace environment. In the years since retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family (especially the 4 footed variety), reading, shopping and supporting her favorite charities. Her compassion, unique sense of humor and spiritual strength shall be remembered and carried forth by all those left in her stead.
She is survived by her daughters: Toni Tenen of Gurnee, Illinois and Linda Tenen (Eric) Sterling of Ocala, Florida; great nieces in-law: Lisa Pawelak (Stephen Walden) and their daughters: Sundara & Naiya; Jill (Joseph) Simons and their sons: Raiden and Ryder; Sara (Daniel) Lethert and their daughter: Kayla and sons: Jackson & Noah; Janet (Nestor) Quarshie and their son: Gabriel and daughter: Eliana; great nephew in-law: Gary Pawelak; many cherished friends; and her beloved feline companion: Jada (aka: “Kitty”).
