Joseph "Jody" Buttera, 62, of Beach Park, Illinois, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 27, 2010 following a long and courageous battle with Lou Gehrigs disease.
He was born May 11, 1948 in Waukegan. He owned and operated Buttera Electric in Beach Park for many years and in addition to that he built homes and commercial property in the area. He was also involved in the incorporation of the Village of Beach Park and served on the first board of trustees and remained active in the Village. Joseph enjoyed hunting, golfing, and restoring and driving his old cars.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Susan; two children, Michelle Buttera of Zion and Jeff (Pam) Buttera of Beach Park; three grandchildren, Justin, Joey and Andrew; his mother, Patsy Mohr of Beach Park; siblings, Susan (Darryl) Menard, Tom (Vera) Buttera, and Jim (Ronda) Buttera; sister-in-law, Sue Buttera; and many nieces and nephews. The family also wishes to thank his devoted caregivers, Letty and Leslie.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Buttera in 2002; and by his father, Frank Buttera.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 2, 2011, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, Pastor Jon Wiziarde officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
