Joseph W. "Joe" Lyding, 90, of Waukegan Il, died on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, IL.
Joe was born January 11, 1920, in Indianapolis, IN, and was a 1938 graduate of Waukegan Township High School. He wed Helen Tamerian in February of 1950. Joe served with the United States Army in World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He retired from Johnson Motors in Waukegan after 42 years of employment. A youthful experience with photography (working with his mother at the former Zion Lace Factory) led to a lifetime enjoyment of this hobby that included receiving awards and prizes. Other interests were astronomy, entomology, New York Times Crossword Puzzles, model trains, and chess. Joe was a member of the Lake County Art League. He attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion.
Survivors include a son, Joseph (Barbara ) Lyding of Champaign, IL; daughter, Diane Swanson of Morristown, New Jersey; granddaughter, Paula Lyding; and other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen in 2009; parents, Alfred and Beatrice Lyding (Erickson); and brother, Alfred Lyding in 1959.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 3:00 .m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
